From small communities in the Nepalese Himalayas to the poorest areas of Central America´s largest cities to refugee camps in East Africa, MI´s work puts lifesaving and life-enhancing micronutrients into the hands of the world´s most vulnerable.
Headquartered in Ottawa, Canada, MI´s work reaches children and women in more than 70 countries around the world. We have an active presence, with established offices and dedicated staff people, in a dozen countries.
From our regional office in New Delhi, India, MI works to deliver programming to millions of people affected by micronutrient malnutrition in Asia; 22 million infants alone in this area are not protected from iodine deficiency disorders, which is the leading cause of preventable brain damage.
From our regional office in Dakar, Senegal, we oversee our programming in Africa, including salt iodization by small-scale processors, food fortification with vitamin A, iron and other nutrients, and vitamin A supplementation for children.
From MI´s Ottawa office we manage our programs in the Americas including our multiple micronutrient supplementation, vitamin A and salt iodization.
In addition to its own work, MI is an integral part of many international networks and initiatives, allowing us to further extend our reach. Our leadership with global bodies such as the Iodine Network, the Flour Fortification Initiative, FORTAF, NEPAD and the Ten-year Strategy for the Reduction of Vitamin and Mineral Deficiencies are an integral part of MI´s mission, vision and purpose.
