Working Together to End Hidden Hunger

The Micronutrient Initiative is passionate about tackling one of the world’s greatest health issues: malnutrition. Recognized as global experts, we work around the world to create effective and sustainable solutions for hidden hunger. MI has headquarters in Ottawa Canada and regional offices in New Delhi, India to oversee Asian operations and in Dakar, Senegal to oversee African operations.

When MI was launched more than 20 years ago it was created because the Government of Canada and others realized that to attack the challenge of undernutrition we had to scale up what we knew could make a difference –adding iodine to salt, fortifying staple foods, and ensuring the vulnerable get nutritional supplements, like vitamin A and iron.

We chose to focus on the interventions that could truly give us the greatest value return for investment – some of which literally cost only pennies per person.  And in the beginning we did, and continue to do, everything possible to make sure they got to those people in greatest need.  We reach 500 million people in over 70 countries every year.

MI is a not-for-profit agency governed by a dedicated international Board of Directors and led by an internationally recognized team of technical experts, program designers, advocates, analysts, evaluators, implementers, educators, resource managers and nutrition champions.
