Luz María De-Regil DSc, MSc, INP
Dr. Luz María De-Regil has 15 years of international work experience in maternal and infant nutrition, public health research and policy making, and hands-on experience in managing and leading multi-disciplinary teams.
As the Director of Research and Evaluation at the Micronutrient Initiative (MI), Luz María is responsible for MI’s surveillance, implementation research, and program evaluation strategies. She also leads the generation and translation of new evidence to influence policy and practice globally.
As a member of the Executive Management Committee, Luz María plays an active role in the strategic management of MI, ensuring that MI’s programs and technical services are innovative and based on sound evidence.
Luz María has authored multiple articles in recognized international refereed scientific journals and acts as Peer Reviewer, Editorial Board Member and Advisor for several publications, such as the Cochrane Library and the Global Nutrition Report. She also serves as an Advisor on ethics, methodology and public health nutrition to regional and global organizations, including WHO and its regional offices, and the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics. Her work as Co-chair of the Micronutrient Forum and as a Board Member for the Iodine Global Network and Food Fortification Initiative are instrumental in facilitating communication between nutrition actors and across nutrition-sensitive sectors.
Luz María holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Food Sciences, a Masters degree in Sciences as well as a Masters degree in International Negotiation and Policy Making. She also has a Doctorate of Sciences in Public Health with an emphasis in Epidemiology.
Prior to joining MI, Luz María held positions at the National Institute of Perinatology and Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico; the Children’s Hospital Research Institute in Oakland, CA, USA; and the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland.
