Iodine
Deficiency Disorders Database IDDSTAT
About
the IDD Database
The
Current IDD Status (CIDDS) database aims to provide an ongoing assessment
of the status of Iodine Deficiency Disorders in countries throughout the
world, as well as progress of IDD control program activities. The database
has been established through a series of responses to a questionnaire
form developed by representatives of World Health Organization (WHO),
United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), and the
International Council for the Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (ICCIDD).
The forms have been filled out primarily by global experts of the ICCIDD,
and in some cases by country managers of IDD control programs. In addition,
through a process recently undertaken by UNICEF New York, data have been
updated by UNICEF country offices on salt production and salt iodization
activities which have been incorporated into the CIDDS. Through distribution
of the CIDDS, it is expected that a wider network of collaboration in
the database may be achieved, whereby data inputs may be made from individuals
and institutions involved in IDD control.
